Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley is recognizing the city’s form of governance.
At Monday’s city council meeting, Buckley mentioned that in April 1924, during a municipal election, the voters voted to change the city’s form of government to a city manager form of government.
“That was by popular vote,” he stated. “And I understand at the time that it was advocated by the local newspaper, which would have been the Two Rivers Reporter, at the time.”
That means the city has been run by a city manager for 100 years.
Since then, there have been 12 city managers that have run the city.
In 2001, Buckley says there was a petition that went around to change the form of government again, but “The state ruled the petition invalid, but the council at the time said, ‘Well, you know what, let’s ask.’ The response from the community at the time was about a 2-1 affirmation of the current form of government.”
Buckley finished by saying it’s a pretty cool anniversary and worth noting.
