A major five-year project on I-41 is set to begin today (April 1st).
WBAY TV reports that crews will begin the long task of widening the highway between De Pere and Appleton from four lanes up to six.
The most immediate impact on traffic comes from the demolition of the Capitol Drive overpass, which is expected to begin this morning.
Additionally, the Northbound on and off-ramp at Highway 15, the on-ramp from Highway 96, and the exit ramp to Highway 47, along with the southbound on-ramp at Highway 47 and off-ramp at Highway 15, will also be closed today.
While this project will cause issues for drivers while it is in progress, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has stated that once it is complete, traffic will flow much more smoothly.
A full breakdown of what is being done on a week-by-week basis can be found on the WisDOT website.
