A legislative proposal at the Wisconsin Capitol seeking to grant driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants within the state has emerged.
State Representatives Clinton Anderson and Sylvia Ortiz-Velez introduced legislation permitting individuals lacking a social security number to obtain non-compliant REAL IDs.
While affording immigrants a valid form of identification, these licenses and ID cards would not extend voting privileges.
Proponents argue that providing driver’s licenses enhances road safety despite longstanding resistance due to security and electoral integrity concerns.
