Four candidates are running for a seat on the Manitowoc Public School District Board.
Incumbents Stacey Soeldner and Kerry Trask are looking to retain their seats as they run against Keith Shaw and Basil Buchko.
Despite still being in the race, Buchko has told Seehafer News he asked his voters to vote for Shaw and Trask in a personal Facebook post on March 8th because he says he believes a change of leadership is needed, and “they (Shaw and Trask) have the skills necessary to move our district forward.”
He also tells us the video was later posted on the Manitowoc County Democrats YouTube page because they wanted to use it.
When asked why he would be okay with his constituents voting for the other board member.
“I know that primary voting turnout is usually far less than the General Elections… (but) that was a pretty good indicator that the community was very interested in having Keith Shaw and Kerry Trask on the board.” he explained.
Buchko finished fourth in the February 20th Primary Election behind Shaw, Trask, and Soeldner.
Some listeners have brought concerns about how backing the two other men could look in the grand scheme of things when they all agree on similar issues.
When we asked, Buchko said, “Well, people are going to conclude whatever they have to conclude. I can’t get into their minds.”
Other ballots around the county could have races for the Howards Grove and Sheboygan Area School District races as well.
The General Election is set for April 2nd.
