The Manitowoc Lincoln Gymnastics team recently finished up another successful season under the tutelage of head coach Jacque Bartow.
Team captain Erin Bochart was the lone gymnast to earn a trip to state, while fellow captain Devin Talley missed the cut by a quarter of a tenth of a point in the floor exercise.
While on the On the Line Podcast, Bartow recalled Talley’s routine and said that the gymnast has absolutely nothing to feel bad about.
“It was a state routine for sure,” Bartow explained. “It was her best routine that she had all season, but the score wasn’t enough.”
Bartow noted that in the Sectional meet, the Ships drew the floor exercise first, which makes it much more difficult to maintain a winning score.
While performing well and getting to state is always the goal, the Lincoln alumnus explained that to her, it’s about much more than that.
“The high school team is more focused on having fun and building social skills along the way,” she noted. “Not saying I haven’t had phenomenal gymnasts along the way, which I have. Brynn Tackett of course.”
Brynn, a 2019 graduate, is the all-time leader in varsity points scored with 1,755.98.
While on the podcast, Bartow also spoke highly of her end of season award winners, which include Talley being named the MVP, Borchardt named Most Dedicated, Mira Parnau as the Most Improved, Khloe Jalbert being the Most Spirited, and the Most Promising award going to Khali Goethals.
Bartow, who also competed in the Division 3 NCAA ranks, said she is very excited for next season as she did not lose any seniors this year, so her whole squad will be back next year.
