A retired farmer from Whitelaw has written a book about his daughter.
“Loving Amber: A Father’s Story” was written by Robert R. Lentz and inspired by people asking what his life was like living with a daughter with a disability.
Lentz explained that he “never could have imagined the roller coaster ride his life would be with the birth of his daughter, Amber.
She was born with a mild case of spina bifida, a condition that happens when a neural tube in the spine doesn’t close before birth.
The author continued saying she was learning to overcome obstacles of the condition when she became severely brain damaged by an unrelated outbreak of a disease called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, which changed their lives forever.
HUS is a disease that causes the destruction of red blood cells, which could cause kidney failure.
The book tells the story of 25 years of living with a daughter with severe disabilities who still talks about his love for his daughter.
