Firearms will be allowed to be carried by some Tactical Emergency Medical Service (TEMS) workers in Wisconsin.
Gov. Tony Evers signed a bill yesterday (March 26th) at the Appleton Fire Department because of their leadership in turning TEMS into community emergency response services.
The bill allows those in the line of duty to carry a firearm in some otherwise prohibited areas like fish hatcheries and wildlife refuges when they are called.
It also defines TEMS as people who are able to provide medical services when operating as part of a tactical team that operates with the prior written approval of a sheriff or chief of police and adds the term TEMS professional to the definition of law enforcement officer for use of force standards.
Some of the money for the bill comes from the 2023-25 biannual budget, including from Act 12 which state money back to local communities.
