The city of Two Rivers is offering grants again for businesses that need some building repairs.
City Manager Grey Buckley says the 2024 budget has funds for Business Façade and Sign Grants that total up to $100,000.
Buckley tells Seehafer News that the grants can be used for “the front of your building with windows and doors, display windows, that sort of thing, plus tuckpointing and masonry restoration. Facades are defined as any wall that’s readily visible from a public street, so if you’re on the corner, you’ve got two to them.”
But he says there are some regulations with only some businesses focused on some parts of the downtown area.
“Because it’s coming from TIF Districts that are in or near the downtown,” he stated, “However, there’s at least $20,000, none of which is spoken for yet, available for Façade and Sign Grants outside of the business improvement district.”
Inside the business district, specifically Tax Increment District (T.I.D.) 8, about $30,000 is available inside an area downtown a half a mile around the old high school property, while $50,000 is available a half a mile around T.I.D. 13 where Culver’s was supposed to go at Washington and 22nd Street.
Buckley says there is typically a dollar-for-dollar match, and any grants are subject to approval by the Two Rivers Main Street Design Committee.
Businesses with questions or inquiries can contact the Two Rivers Main Street Office or his office for more information.
This is the third year the city has budgeted for the grants.
