Sunday marked the 9th anniversary of the death of Kiel native and State Trooper Trevor Casper.
Many local and state entities posted remembrances on social media in honor of Caper, who was only 21-years-old when he died in the line of duty.
Trooper Casper was following a vehicle that was being driven by a suspect in a bank robbery and a homicide on March 24th, 2015.
Trooper Casper called for backup, but before it could arrive, the suspect opened fire, striking Casper.
Despite his injuries, the eight-month veteran of the State Patrol returned fire, killing the suspect.
Casper would then succumb to his injuries. The State Patrol, Kiel Police Department, and Lakeshore Technical College, where he earned his Criminal Justice Degree, all made posts about Casper, reminding residents to never forget the heroic actions he took that day and the sacrifices law enforcement make to keep our communities safe.
