Two election reform bills penned by an Eastern Wisconsin Senator have been signed into law.
Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere tells Seehafer News that the Keep the Polls Open Act and the Election Worker Protection Act were both signed by Governor Tony Evers.
The first measure stemmed from a situation in the 2020 Spring Primary, where the City of Green Bay closed all but two polling places at the last minute, making voting much more difficult for some.
The Keep the Polls Open Act prevents that from happening ever again.
Jacque said that this measure will “protect our right to vote by making sure local officials notify us early about proper polling locations so we can submit our votes on time.”
The Election Worker Protection Act, meanwhile, provides whistleblower protections to election officials, defines the term election official, prohibits the disclosure of personally identifiable information of election officials or election registration officials, and makes it a Class I felony to intentionally cause bodily harm to an election official acting in that person’s official capacity
Jacque said of the measure, “Working at the polls should be as safe as it is rewarding to participate in the elections process.”
