The next big renovation on the Rahr-West Art Museum is happening later this year.
About $250,000 from the city of Manitowoc’s budget was allocated for construction on a part of the museum’s roof.
Executive Director Greg Vadney said on WOMT’s Be My Guest it’s not the roof on the historic home, but rather the flat portion of the building.
He says that the roof was from when the building was built in 1975 and needs replacement.
“We’re starting to see a lot of leaks in different places,” he explained. “And the biggest problem is that they’ll be leaks in places we don’t know. So, that was a necessity for the city to improve that.”
Vadney says he and his staff are working on a schedule but still aren’t sure when the project will start.
It’s also important to have a plan because of the millions of dollars worth of art in the building and where it could be moved during construction.
After the roof, Vadney says the repainting the outside of the mansion would be next.
