A standoff in Sheboygan Wednesday resulted in a 52-year-old man dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to a news release from the Sheboygan Police Department, the situation began just before 10:00 a.m. in the 2700 block of South 9th Street.
A 31-year-old man called 911 after he was shot in the face. Responding officers administered first aid before he was flown to Froedtert Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound under his right eye.
The perpetrator was believed to still be in the residence, so a perimeter was set up.
The Sheboygan Police Department’s Emergency Response Team was deployed after several failed attempts at making contact with a man who continued to refuse to come outside after contact was made.
A warrant was issued to enter the home, and when the officers entered, the man shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Sheboygan Police and the Sheboygan County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Names of those involved will not be released until the families are notified.
