The Better Business Bureau has announced the top 10 riskiest scams reported to them this past year.
Jim Temmer with the Wisconsin BBB says in 2023, investing in cryptocurrency was the biggest scam where people lost the most money.
It was also the second-highest median dollar loss at $3,800.
Temmer says the scam usually happens with ads, random texts, and fake websites claiming to invest in cryptocurrencies but just taking your money.
The second riskiest came was employment scams. The United States Postal Service was the most impersonated business, while Amazon was second.
The report also reports multiple businesses that are being impersonated, with the US Postal Service being number one and Amazon coming in second.
Temmer also says it’s not just older people who are getting scammed.
The age group that lost the most to scams last year were those between 18 and 24, with the second group being between 25 and 30.
