The individual accused of the double murder in Elkhorn is scheduled to appear in court later today.
According to Thomas Routt Jr.’s attorney, he plans to enter a plea of not guilty for the killing of Gina and Emerson Weingart in the beginning of last month.
While investigators claim that Routt confessed to shooting the two victims during a robbery, his lawyer now asserts that Routt maintains his innocence.
Prior to this incident, Routt had served a 25-year prison sentence for arson and various other offenses. If found guilty of the Weingart’s murders, he could potentially face a life sentence.
