There is a growing disagreement in Fond du Lac between cat lovers and bird lovers.
Recently, the city implemented a new policy permitting animal shelters to release stray cats into the community.
The city also neuters any feral cats it finds before releasing them. Animal rescue owner Renee Webb believes that neutering the cats will help control their population.
However, bird lover Laura DeGolier is concerned that feral cats eat birds, which could jeopardize Fond du Lac’s status as a Bird City.
The city didn’t want to take sides and, therefore, allowed shelters to make their own choices instead of mandating the release of feral cats.
