A commendable act of bravery unfolded as Racine firefighters rescued two children from a blazing house early yesterday morning.
Responding to a call at 3:30 a.m. regarding a fire near Virginia Street and Washington Avenue on Racine’s west side, firefighters navigated through a window to reach the children trapped in the basement.
An adult and another child managed to evacuate independently.
All four individuals were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
Investigators noted the absence of functioning smoke detectors in the residence.
