A freshwater protection bill is now one signature away from becoming law.
The measure, co-authored by Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere and Representative Elisha Behnke of Oconto has passed in both houses of government and now is on its way to Governor Tony Evers’ desk.
The bill, known as Senate Bill 52, would establish criteria for the training and maintain a list of acceptable trainings, as well as certified commercial applicators, without collecting any new state fees.
Sen. Jacque notes that the bill “promotes training on best practices that help keep both our roads and our waters safe.”
Rep. Behnke explained that the bill was “developed through extensive consultation with state government leaders and Wisconsin Salt Wise, a coalition of organizations from across Wisconsin.”
