The WIAA State Wrestling Tournament kicked off yesterday with three Manitowoc County girls taking part and two boys.
For Manitowoc Lincoln, Sophomore Emjay Neumann not only won twice in the 120-pound weight class, but she also dominated her opponents.
In the preliminaries, she pinned Lilly Canvin of Westosha Central in 1:42, and in the quarterfinals, it took her just 43 seconds to pin Monroe’s Althea Eckdhal.
Neuman will be back in action in the semifinal round tonight at 7:00 p.m.
Her teammate, Senior Ameilia Fowler, did not fare as well.
She was pinned by Black River Falls’ Riley Hanrahan in 2:54 in their preliminary match.
Fowler’s tournament isn’t over, though, as she will be back in action at 10:00 this morning in the consolation bracket.
Also in action yesterday was Sophomore Angie Bianchi of Two Rivers. She won her prelim match over Allison Weiss of Holmen, earning the pinfall victory in 2:47.
Her quarterfinal matchup with Gemma Vaccaro of Milwaukee Ronald Regan/Salam went to the judge’s scorecards.
Bianchi earned the win through a 12-5 decision and advanced to the semifinals tonight in the 114-pound weight class.
Also, Mishicot Freshman Own Schacht lost is 144-pound match to Zach Malin of Aquinas via an 11-2 decision, and Valders Junior Jack Wendling lost is 126-pound match against Lew Libson’s Alexander Radavich via pinfall at the 5:03 mark.
