Wisconsin lawmakers have approved legislation to retain students who demonstrate chronic absenteeism.
The State Assembly passed the measure, which mandates the retention of students in their current grade if they exceed 30 absences within a single school year.
Proponents argue that the law ensures students’ readiness for advancement to the next grade level.
However, Wisconsin’s state superintendent of schools has criticized the proposal, denouncing it as harsh and unnecessary.
