A bill authored by an Eastern Wisconsin representative has taken the next step toward becoming law.
The Anti-Human Trafficking bill, written by Assemblyman Paul Tittl of Manitowoc, passed an Assembly vote 61-35 and is now headed to the full Senate.
The measure aims to require people convicted of keeping a place of prostitution to be added to the sex offender registry and is one of nine bills that came out of the Speaker’s Task Force on Human Trafficking.
Through conversations with law enforcement, advocacy groups, and constituents, the task force concluded a place of prostitution often serves as a hub for human trafficking.
Tittl said that this change would “further inform the public on the status of their community.”
