The Wisconsin State Senate has voted to approve the legislative maps drawn by Governor Tony Evers.
After months of political back and forth, both sides of the aisle have agreed to pass the maps ahead of this year’s election despite the fact that Republicans aren’t 100% happy about it.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu sent Seehafer News a statement about the maps, saying this was the best of two bad options.
He said the legislature could either “pass the Governor’s maps and have them signed into law or allow the liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court to unilaterally gerrymander the state.”
He also stated that this entire process made it clear that the “liberal majority of the Wisconsin Supreme Court” is only seeking to “benefit legislative Democrats to the greatest extent possible.”
Meanwhile, Democrats are saying that the Republicans had been gerrymandering the state for 14 years and that they had backed themselves into a corner.
