After eight years in office, Congressman Mike Gallagher has announced he will not be running for office again.
In a statement posted to his Twitter, Rep. Gallagher stated that when he was first elected into the position, he “promised to treat my time in office as a high-intensity deployment. Through my bipartisan work on the armed Services and Intelligence Committees, chairing the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, and Charing the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, we’ve accomplished more on this deployment than I could have ever imagined.”
As for the reason for his departure, Gallagher noted that the founding fathers never intended politics to be a career.
He stated the intent was for “citizens to service in Congress for a season and then return to their private lives.” He thanked the people of Wisconsin for supporting him, calling his four terms “the honor of a lifetime.”
Four hours after Gallagher made the announcement Saturday (February 10th), a fellow veteran threw his hat into the ring.
Roger Roth also went to Twitter, where he thanked Gallagher for his eight years of service before announcing that he would be running to fill the position.
