An Eastern Wisconsin congressman has introduced a bill he claims would defend innovation and combat government overreach.
The No Industrial Restrictions in Secret Act, or No IRIS Act, was introduced by Congressman Glenn Grothman with the goal of, as he put it, “reduce undue red tape imposed by the Biden Administration through the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS).”
The measure is supported by the American Chemistry Council and Hexion Specialty Chemicals, which has a manufacturing plant in Sheboygan and would prevent the EPA from using IRIS assessments as their primary source to draft its rulemaking.
The Congressman from Glenbeulah stated in a news release that under President Joe Biden, the IRIS has ” relied on flawed scientific data, disregarded relevant information, and dismissed public input. Despite the program’s inherent flaws, it creates chemical threshold assessment that have had devastating consequences for private industries.”
