The man deemed responsible for a garage fire in Manitowoc in 2021 has been sentenced.
58-year-old Charles Cantrell III was found guilty due to no-contest pleas on charges of Criminal Trespass to a Dwelling and Negligent Handling of Burning Material and was ordered by Judge Jerylin Dietz to spend two years on probation.
Manitowoc Police and Fire responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Mero Street in October 2021 on a report of a garage fire.
Cantrell was arrested a short time later, and he admitted to accidentally starting the fire, which also destroyed the home it was detached from, as he was homeless at the time and was trying to stay warm.
Cantrell was also ordered to maintain absolute sobriety and submit to random urine screens.
