A local humane society is looking to help stop the spread of rabies through a vaccination clinic this week.
The low-cost clinic will be held at Lakeshore Humane Society, located at 1551 North 18th Street in Manitowoc, where they will vaccinate any dog or cat over three months old.
Each vaccination will cost $30, with cash or debit cards being accepted. All dogs with handling sensitivities must be muzzled, and all cats must arrive in a carrier.
According to the DATCP, of the 36 cases of rabies contracted by humans in 2023, one of them happened in Manitowoc County, and three were reported in Brown County, all of which stemmed from contact with infected bats.
