The Manitowoc County Historical Society has lots of fun events planned for the month of February.
The first event on February 7th will be a birthday celebration for Laura Ingalls Wilder from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Laura Ingalls Wilder is the author of the wildly popular “Little House on the Prairie” book series.
Guests will get to visit favorite childhood characters and see what their life is like during the winter, along with grinding wheat into flour just like in Wilder’s book “The Long Winter.”
If interested in participating, advanced registration is required to attend.
The next event on the agenda this month will be a Sleigh Rally on February 10th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and going until 4:00 p.m.
The Sleigh Rally will be at the museum’s Pinecrest Village, which is where the horse-drawn sleighs will meet.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own sleds to take a ride down Pinecrest Hill.
There will also be hot beverages available in the Two Creeks Town Hall.
Then on February 20th, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., guests can create their own pair of 19th-century mittens with a 21st-century twist.
Participants will get to experiment with sewing and needlework in the process of making late 19th-century patterned mittens.
To participate, advanced registration is required. The last event on the calendar currently for February is on the 29th for anyone who’s hungry for history.
At 11:00 a.m., the Manitowoc County Historical Society will be unveiling well-known historic landmarks, including the Opera House, Carnegie Library, Manitowoc Post Office, Turner Hall, James E. Hamilton residence in Two Rivers, the old train depot in Valders, and the lime kilns in Grimms.
This program will take place at Branch Station, and advanced registration is required.
