A former correctional officer in Green Bay was in court Wednesday (January 31st) for the start of his trial.
Shane Nolan is facing charges of Substantial Battery and Disorderly Conduct, each with hate crime modifiers.
As we previously reported, Nolan allegedly called a woman by a homophobic slur before throwing her into a fire pit during a 4th of July party in 2021.
The scuffle continued as the woman got out of the fire and confronted Nolan, who allegedly choked her.
His jury trial continues today at the Brown County Courthouse, with Judge Kendall Kelley presiding.
