A Manitowoc County watershed protection group has received some state money.
Jesse Dvorachek tells Seehafer News that the Producer Led Watershed group he is the president of is getting $7,000 from the Department of Agriculture, which will help them get their wheels turning.
He noted that includes “bookkeeping, recordkeeping, getting the group off the ground, sponsoring some field days, some type of work group type stuff that we are going to hopefully do to get our group up and going.”
Dvorachek, who is also a part of Ed’s Acres and Wayside Dairy, said that while the group is in its infancy, they have a lot of big plans moving forward.
“This group is going to be responsible for bringing farmers together to share ideas, hear what’s working and what’s not working,” he explained. “The county is so vast and has a lot of different soil types. Sometimes, when you fail at a project on your farm, that doesn’t mean it’s a complete failure. Somebody else may be doing something similar but just has it tweaked a little bit, and that may work on your farm as well.”
Local farmers have been excited to see the group get started, with ten signing on to be a part of the founders group, with even more voicing interest in participating.
