While many around the country were surprised by the way the Green Bay Packers destroyed the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs, one man was not surprised at all.
That would be former Packer O-Lineman Evan Smith. During this week’s episode of his On the Line Podcast, he said that Green Bay’s players were likely not as phased by the pressure of the big game as the Dallas players were.
“They have been playing playoff football for a while now,” he reiterated. “You could tell, they were playing a little faster than Dallas…They have been swimming in the deep end for a while now, and they are pretty good at it.”
A big reason for the Packers’ dominance on the offensive side of the ball was their O-line.
Jordan Love may have had some pressures, but the line gave him enough time to make the plays he needed to make.
Smith had high praise for one lineman, in particular, Elgton Jenkins.
“That fool is a menace,” he said. “He is one of the best in the game. He doesn’t get enough respect. He should be a Pro Bowler every single year.”
As far as the matchup with the 49ers, Smith predicted a win for the Packers, 35-28.
He also made another even more bold prediction.
Smith predicted, “If they win this week, they are going to the Super Bowl.”
Additionally, if the Packers and the Detroit Lions win, it will be an NFC North showdown in the NFC Championship game, which has not happened since Green Bay faced the Chicago Bears in 2011.
For those who don’t remember, that is the year Smith earned a Super Bowl ring.
