The crime rate in 2023 was down in the City of Green Bay.
A recent report from the Green Bay Police Department shows that, overall, 13% fewer crimes were reported around the city last year, which was the lowest point in the last five years.
The total number of crimes reported was 6,142 in 2023, compared to the five-year high reported in 2022, which was 7,056.
The number of assaults was down 17%, 28 fewer reports of gunfire were responded to, the theft rate dropped 23%, and retail theft was down 30%.
However, the drug overdose number was 39% higher, with officers responding to 172 overdoses, 32 of which resulted in a death.
The homicide rate remained unchanged, with six deaths being tagged as such.
Police Chief Chris Davis praised his officers for all of their hard work, which is what he said is a big reason for the crime rate reaching this historic low.
