Congressman Derrick Van Orden from western Wisconsin has introduced legislation on Capitol Hill to rename Tomah’s VA Hospital after Jason Simcakoski.
Simcakoski, a Marine veteran, tragically overdosed on opioids in 2014 while under treatment at the VA, prompting an investigation into the Tomah facility.
Van Orden believes that Simcakoski’s sacrifice has significantly influenced positive changes within the Veterans Administration.
A similar initiative is being championed by Wisconsin’s Democratic U.S. Senator, Tammy Baldwin, in the Senate.
