The Lakeshore Community Action Program, or Lakeshore CAP, has been named a recipient of a major grant from the Department of Health Services.
The program was awarded $125,000 from the state’s McKinsey & Company Opioid Settlement Funds to aid in helping those in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Door, and Kewaunee Counties who are suffering from Opioid Use Disorder.
Lakeshore CAP’s Recovery Voucher Program, which is where the cash is going, helps those experiencing homelessness find an affordable place to live and helps keep them clean during the transition.
2023 was the first year of the program, and they were able to help 25 people.
Colleen Homb, the Executive Director of Lakeshore CAP, tells us anyone who believes they are eligible is able to apply. However, there is a waiting list.
In total, the DHS granted just shy of $760,000 to organizations around the state.
