The Valders wrestling team participated in the Oshkosh on the Water Tournament over the weekend, and three wrestlers finished in the top 10.
Maddux Wendling earned a 3rd place finish in the 120-pound weight class, going 7-1 and taking down several previous state qualifiers and place winners.
Coach Caynen Klessig tells us Maddux’s finish is the best for a Viking wrestler at this tournament to date.
Also finishing in the top ten was Brayden Lenz, who went 6-2 in the 150-pound division to earn a 7th place finish, which Coach Klessig called an “incredible feat for a freshman at that weight.”
Jack Wendling also went 6-2 and finished in 9th place in the 126-pound weight class.
Also of note, Ethan Staudinger went 2-2 in the 132 pound division, and while he did not place, he battled back from a 7-point deficit in his second-to-last match to earn a buzzer-beating pin.
As a team, the Vikings placed 26th out of 71 teams, which Coach Klessig called an “amazing showing by all Valders wrestlers.”
