Thieves in Brown County are targeting a rather unique item.
According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, people have been sawing off-road signs and stealing them.
In one case, a stop sign was taken at the intersection of County Road NN and Mill Road, which is an area with a 55-mile-per-hour speed limit.
Removing a stop sign from that intersection could have resulted in a catastrophe, but the sign was found in a different location.
It was clear that it was not hit by a vehicle but was rather taken and moved.
It was puzzling to investigators that the individual or group did not keep any of the signs.
They just moved them.
Not only is this a criminal act that puts lives at risk, but the Sheriff’s Office also notes that it is costing taxpayers money, as the signs now need to be fully replaced.
Anyone with any information on who may be responsible is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Department at 920-391-7450 or Crime Stoppers at 920-432-7867, where you may be eligible for a cash reward.
