We now know the extent of the cybersecurity event that took place in the Bellin Health System.
A letter was sent to the patients whose information was involved in the incident on October 27th.
In the letter, Bellin officials explained that a third-party individual had gained access to “a specific electronic folder that stored copies of archived, scanned documents related to the purchase of home care equipment dated between 2006 and 2013.”
The individual was able to gain access to the addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and additional health information related to home care equipment.
In some cases, social security numbers were comprised.
The letter explained that at one point in time, social security numbers were sometimes used as Medicare ID numbers, but that practice is no longer in place.
It was reiterated, “Bellin’s electronic medical record system was not involved or accessed.”
Bellin is providing those whose information may have been involved with complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.
Patients with questions can call Bellin’s dedicated call center at 1-888-988-0385 or visit Bellin.org/DataIncident.
