A man is facing charges after attempting to steal from a downtown Manitowoc gas station.
An officer was dispatched to the Mini Mart Citgo, located at 50 Maritime Drive, at around 6:15 p.m. Friday on a report of a retail theft.
Officers located the suspect, who admitted to taking a Rockstar Energy drink and two vape pens.
The 33-year-old man was handcuffed and placed in the squad car while the officer spoke with the clerk and checked the security camera footage.
The security footage showed the man entering the store, going into the restroom, grabbing two vape pens, and placing one in his pocket.
He then went to the counter and offered to pay for one of them, along with a pack of cigarettes.
When his payment didn’t work, the man went back to the cooler, grabbed the energy drink, put it in his jacket pocket, and grabbed another vape pen and put it in his pocket. It was around that time the officers arrived.
The clerk also reported that the man had attempted to pay with “a chip in his wrist.”
A search of the man uncovered two “bindles”, which are pieces of tin foil used to ingest drugs, along with a utility knife.
The man is facing charges of Retail Theft, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, and six counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
