Wisconsin’s Senate Majority Leader agrees with Assembly Speaker Robin Vos saying the Wisconsin Legislature offered the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents the “last and best offer” regarding funding for the system.
9th District State Senator Devin LeMahieu, who represents most of Manitowoc County in Madison, continues to say, “Enumerating a new engineering building at UW-Madison and providing hardworking UW employees with inflationary wage increases is good for the university system and good for the state and the Board of Regents should reconsider their vote.”
The board voted 9-8 last Saturday to reject a deal between the university and the Wisconsin Legislature that would have released $32 million that’s been withheld by Vos over diversity, equity, and inclusion.
LeMahieu says the university needs to stop prioritizing woke liberal ideology over student achievement and make the right decision on behalf of the university system and the state.
Without meaningful reforms, he says, there will not be more investment made into the University of Wisconsin System.
