Bail is set at $200 cash for a 35-year-old Whitelaw man facing multiple charges following an incident over the weekend at a southside Manitowoc Kwik Trip.
Eric L. Engebretsen is charged with Strangulation, Criminal Damage to Property, and Disorderly Conduct, each with a Domestic Violence Enhancer, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Felony Bail Jumping.
Manitowoc Police responded to the business on South 42nd Street for the report of a physical altercation.
The victim told officers that they had come to the store from The AmericInn, saying that Engebretsen’s mental state was diminishing and driving erratically, so they asked him to pull over into the Kwik Trip parking lot.
Tempers flared over money, leading Engebretsen to take the victim’s phone, smash it to the ground, and choke them.
Police describe the Whitelaw man as having a “1,000-yard stare” and being upset. Engebretsen said he was not going to jail, but he was eventually detained and taken to The County Jail without further incident.
Conditions of Bail are that Engebretsen have “no contact” with the victims and maintain “absolute sobriety”.
He remains in the County Jail with an initial appearance scheduled for December 18th at 1:30 p.m.
