
Commander Nick Schnettler, the son of Appleton natives, is ending his time as the commanding officer of the Helicopter Sea Combat Weapons School Pacific (HSCWSP).
This school is responsible for getting all Pacific Fleet HSC squadrons battle-ready as they prepare for deployments.
Cmdr. Schnettler has been a part of the Navy for the past 19 years, having joined as a Naval Aviator.
He stated in an interview that he wanted to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, Lieutenant Junior Grade Norbert Mullaney, who served in the South Pacific during WWII.
Schnettler has several other family members in the military, including his uncle, Capt. Michael Mullaney, who served during the Cold War era, his brother, Cmdr. Shane Schnettler, a Navy SEAL, and his cousin, Lt. John Mullaney, a Naval Aviator.
A change of command ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, December 8th aboard the USS Midway in San Diego California.
