A new bill that would allow prosecutors more time to file sexual assault charges has been introduced by 1st District Republican Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere.
The proposed legislation would extend the statute of limitations from 10 to 20 years, a limit that has been enacted in other states and was approved by the Wisconsin Senate last year, but stalled in the Assembly.
Senator Jacque believes that the proposed extension will help give survivors of sexual assault more time to come forward and seek justice.
