A new report shows that Wisconsinites are taking their lung health very seriously.
The 2023 “State of Lung Cancer” report showed that Wisconsin holds an impressive 9th position nationally for lung cancer screening and 16th for survival rates.
With a lung cancer screening rate of 7.3%, Wisconsin surpasses the national average of 4.5%.
It’s crucial to note that annual screenings for those of higher risk can potentially decrease the lung cancer mortality rate by an estimated 20%.
The recent 6th annual report from the American Lung Association, unveiled recently examines the impact of lung cancer in Wisconsin, scrutinizing crucial indicators such as new diagnoses, survival rates, early detection, surgical intervention, treatment absence, and screening ratios.
Wisconsin is also ranked 12th nationally for early diagnoses of lung cancer cases, with a detection rate of 28.3%, which surpasses the national average of 26.6% once again.
Data from Wisconsin indicates a 27.4% survival rate 5 years post lung cancer diagnoses, a figure that again outperforms the national average of 26.6%.
The Advocacy Director at the American Lung Association remarked, “Thankfully, in Wisconsin, the lung cancer survival rate has improved because of increased awareness, improved access to healthcare and cutting-edge research into new treatments for the disease”.
