
The Manitowoc United JV Hockey team had their first game of the season on Friday in Waupaca.
The local squad, comprised of players from several area schools, were trounced by the Comets 4-1 in a game United Coach Mark Hinz called a gritty, physical matchup.
United started out strong, with Freshman Aiden Thompson scoring just 2:30 into the opening frame, but Waupaca would knot it up with a powerplay goal eight minutes later.
The Comets would add a shorthanded goal in the second, and two more goals in the 3rd period to secure the win.
Manitowoc Goalie Dan Karlin ended the night with 33 saves, while United took 26 total shots on goal.
United is back on the ice on Friday as they take on Marinette in the first home game of the season.
