The Manitowoc Lutheran Girls Basketball team started off the season with a dominant win Tuesday night (November 14th).
The Lancers defeated Kiel 64-36, thanks to strong defensive play and taking advantage of opportunities.
Brian Norton had the call on 107.9 FM WOMT and WOMTRadio.com, and he explained that the Lancers forced numerous turnovers in the first half en route to a 40-18 lead at the break.
Manitowoc Lutheran was led by Makiah Krause led all scorers with 18 while Marissa Melhorn added 17 and Ginevra Ermas tacked on 12.
Lancer Coach Mike Behnke spoke highly of his players’ effort, noting “I thought our kids were able to get there. We took good angles to corral the ball on our traps tonight. We had active hands. I don’t know how many deflections we had. I thought the girls did a real nice job of that.”
He also said the early success was not a shock to him.
“The girls put in a lot of work this summer, especially in the weight room,” he revealed. “They have motors right now to where we can go 9 or 10 deep right now. They don’t quit and that makes it a whole lot of fun.”
The Raiders were led on the score sheet by Liz Neils who accounted for 6 points on the night.
The Lancers are back in action on Friday as they travel to Winnebago Lutheran, while Kiel hosts Kewaskum on the same day.
