All six stations operating under the Seehafer Broadcasting banner in Manitowoc will be going silent at around 1:00 this afternoon.
The company is putting the finishing touches on installing a generator at their office on Mangin Street, which requires the power to be cut to the building.
This will affect 107.9 FM WOMT, 97.1 FM WCUB, Lake 98.1, 102.3 FM WQTC, Hot Country 92.1, and 98.9 FM WEMP.
Station Manager Jim Medley explains why having this generator is so important.
“One of the biggest reasons to have a backup generator is to be able to supply information any time of the day or night, regardless if the power is on,” he explained. “I think back to the wind storm we had earlier this year, when a lot of the city was out of power, including the radio station.”
The stations will be silent for about two hours while the work is completed.
