A bill penned by an Eastern Wisconsin legislator aimed at securing elections has passed in the Assembly.
The Election Observer Bill, which was written by Representative Paul Tittl of Manitowoc, would modify the size of the observation area for election observers to be not more than three feet.
The change applies both to the table where individuals register to vote as well as where they announce their name and address.
According to the Heritage Foundation Score Card on Election Integrity, Wisconsin has fallen three spots since 2021 and is now ranked eleventh in the nation.
The current distance for observers is part of that ranking.
Tittl said of the bill, “This…is one small piece of protecting elections in Wisconsin. Assembly Republicans are working on a number of bills to address the growing loss of public confidence in our elections by making them more transparent and open to the public for observation.”
The measure now heads to the Senate for a vote.
