The Fox Valley Humane Association recently euthanized a stray dog, which normally wouldn’t be an issue, but the canine was said to be gentle and beloved by the residents who live where he would roam.
The dog, who was named Duke, was found in a Kaukauna neighborhood on October 16th, and the residents of the neighborhood took a quick liking to him.
It was said that he would sit and accept treats without a hint of aggression.
But, two days later, he was taken to the Fox Valley Human Association in an attempt to find him a good home.
The animal shelter explained in a Facebook post that they evaluated Duke, and “determined he had both medical and behavioral concerns that required a specialized foster home experienced in handling dogs with behavioral issues.”
When a suitable foster home could not be identified, the team decided to euthanize Duke after two weeks at the shelter.
Neighbors who grew to love Duke are saying that two weeks isn’t enough time to properly evaluate him and are calling for a change in policy at the Fox Valley Humane Association.
