The University of Wisconsin has responded to the demands of Republican lawmakers with a substantial financial commitment.
UW President Jay Rothman recently unveiled a $32 million plan to bolster STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
Rothman emphasized that the initiative will support high-demand STEM programs across the state’s campuses.
Earlier, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos withheld $32 million from the university in an effort to curtail diversity, equity, and inclusion spending.
Vos had urged the allocation of these funds to engineering and STEM degrees.
While Rothman’s plan addresses this request, it does not divert funding from DEI initiatives at the university.
