Albert R. Czekala Jr., age 85, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life with family by his side on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at his home.
Al was born on August 4, 1938 in Manitowoc to the late Albert Czekala Sr. and Alice (Kadow) Czekala. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1957. Al had served in the United States Army and United States Army Reserves from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1964. On September 26, 1959, Al married Margaret Liska at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He had worked for Manitowoc Shipbuilding and retired from Eastman Manufacturing in 2001. Al was a member of AMVETS Post 99. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time up north at the cottage he and his wife built. Above all, Al was a proud grandpa and enjoyed being with all of his family.
Survivors include Al’s wife of 64 years, Margaret; three children, Julie A. (Tom) Tittl, Dawn (Steffen) Berger, and Shari Czekala and her significant other Andy Kober, all of Manitowoc; granddaughter, Vanessa Marie Berger, Germany; brother, Daniel “Zeke” (Gen) Czekala, Manitowoc; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Simino, Madison; and Lora Liska, Appleton; also other relatives and friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; sister, Lois Bastianelli; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Czekala.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Rev. Matthew Colle will officiate with burial to take place at a later date. Military rites will be accorded by AMVETS Post 99, and then a luncheon for family and friends will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
