Attorney Michael Cohen has announced his withdrawal from the case of the missing murder suspect from Eau Claire, Shane Helmbrecht.
In a recent court appearance, Cohen informed the judge that he has been unable to establish contact with Helmbrecht, who has also exhausted his financial resources.
Helmbrecht has been on the run since his departure from a halfway house in Tomah in September, with his last known whereabouts being in New Mexico.
In response to his absence, a Eau Claire judge has issued a warrant for Helmbrecht’s arrest and ordered him to return to the state.
If and when he returns, Helmbrecht is likely to be appointed a court-appointed attorney.
