A researcher at UW-Madison, Chelsea Volpano, is seeking assistance in locating her missing research vessel.
Volpano reported that her small research boat drifted away on Lake Michigan on Monday, severing her connection to it as it disappeared beyond the horizon.
She was conducting research on coastal erosion near Lion’s Den Nature Preserve when the incident occurred.
Despite the vessel’s small size, roughly that of a small cooler, Volpano hopes someone might spot it on Lake Michigan, potentially drifting southward toward Whitefish Bay or Milwaukee.
